Hello Legacy Families and Students,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am Ray Houser, Principal of Legacy High School, 10th Street Middle School and the K-8 School/Home Partnership Program (SHoPP). The staff at all our schools are eager to welcome all of our students and families to the 2020-2021 school year, and back into our school communities. Recognizing that last school year ended in a way that we could not predict and was challenging for students, families and staff, our district along with building administrators and teachers worked extremely hard this summer to ensure that we are prepared for the start this school year. Remote teaching and learning will look much different than it did in the spring.
As Legacy (and our neighbor Heritage High School) is on a three trimester, five period day schedule, our bell schedule looks different than the MG and MP schedule that has been shared by the district. Like all of the MSD secondary schools we will be in session from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily (Friday will end at 2:00 p.m. for students).
Until we are able to safely return to face to face learning Legacy’s schedule will include Asynchronous periods 1-5 every morning before lunch and Synchronous periods 1-5 every afternoon. Asynchronous learning (Independent work) is time for students to complete tasks in preparation for live instruction or complete work from the previous day. Teachers will have “office hours” during Asynchronous periods to answer questions and provide support to students. Synchronous learning is online, live instruction. A copy of our schedule is posted here.
All of our campus professional educators are here, and ready to support your student(s) academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to when we can return to face to face instruction, but in the meantime, we will do everything possible to ensure your student(s) is connected to their school, interacting with their teachers and engaging with their peers. We are looking forward to a great start of the 2020-2021 school. Please feel free to contact your student’s school or me personally with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Ray Houser
