Logistics and Information:
  • 2 summer school sessions are offered; each consists of 10 school days. Session 1 begins on June 22 and ends on July 3. Session 2 begins on July 8 and ends on July 21.

  • During each session, there will be AM and PM classes provided (see times below).

  • Although there are set “class times”, teachers will communicate expectations around what will occur during those times. Options may include: Attending a virtual class, meeting individually with a teacher or paraprofessional to review set goals and progress, completing assignments/projects, completing assessments, etc.

  • Students may receive a semester half credit for each class they attend and complete.

  • Students may attend both Session 1 & Session 2 classes for a maximum of 4 classes and 2 credits. For class size purposes, students registering for only 1 or 2 classes will automatically be enrolled in Session 1. Classes offered during Session 2 are based on student enrollment.

  • Students who take Session 1 classes and fail or need more time to complete their work, will have the opportunity to re-register for that same class Session 2 if there are enough students registered to offer the course.

  • Students must have regularly attended and failed or received an incomplete in their regular high school class in order to be eligible to take a credit retrieval class. The amount of general knowledge a student gained and the efforts they put into a course during the regular school year is a direct indicator of whether or not they will be successful in a summer school credit retrieval course.

Daily Class & “Quick” Response Assistance Times:
  • AM Classes:  9AM - 10:30AM - Assistance available for specific classes.

  • Teacher Office Hours: 10:30 - 12:30PM - Assistance available for all classes.

  • PM Classes: 12:30PM - 2PM - Assistance available for specific classes.

Daily “Delayed” Response Assistance:
  • Teachers will be available for assistance by email outside of 9AM - 2PM (Monday - Friday) and will respond within 24 hours.

Credits Offered:
  • 1st & 2nd-semester courses are available for grades 9-12. Courses Available: English for grades 9-12, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, US History, CWP, Civics, WA State History, World History, & Geography.

    • Summer School Credit Retrieval is intended for students who gained most of the general course content knowledge in the regular school year, were close to passing, but needed more time and/or support to finish. Final course offering is dependent upon the number of students registered. Other courses may be added depending upon student interest.

Attendance, Grading & Work Expectations:
  • Teachers will establish work goals and expectations for students that are based on standards set for each course.

  • Teachers and/or a paraprofessional will check-in with student’s progress towards goals via email or video appointments.

  • Summer school course completion is based on students demonstrating their knowledge of set standards within each course they enroll. Once a student has demonstrated this knowledge they will receive a “Pass” grade and credit for the course.

  • Teachers will work with students to provide opportunities throughout a session for them to prove their knowledge of the standards in a course. Students demonstrating that knowledge prior to the last day of a session may immediately receive a “Pass” grade and credit. With teacher permission, the student may then be dismissed early from the course.

  • Although no daily attendance is taken, failure to engage in assigned classwork, assessments, mandatory video class sessions, or one-to-one appointments set by the teacher will result in loss of credit & any reimbursement for class fees paid.
