Dear Parent/Guardians,
We hope this message finds you and your family well. We will be resuming school on Monday, April 13th. While it will look different, our goal is to continue to support your student and provide them opportunities to continue to learn. Monday will be the start of our third and final trimester. This email is for you, parents and guardians, so you can have a greater understanding of our thinking and intent. Individual teachers will be reaching out to you and your student with class-specific communications between now and April 13.
This era of social distancing and Stay at Home orders in an attempt to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, has brought us all new and unexpected challenges. We do not want remote learning to become a source of conflict between you and your student. During this time of stress and uncertainty the most important thing you can do is provide stability and emotional support to your child. A teacher saw this on Facebook and we feel it is very important right now.
There is good news; students at Legacy High School are already ahead of the curve for credit accumulation because the majority of students completed their courses second trimester, and when combined with first trimester, have likely earned five credits, compared to students at other Marysville high schools who only earned three credits at the end of the semester. We certainly want your child, our student, to be fully engaged in the lessons we develop, and at the same time we want you to prioritize your relationship with your child. You know your child best, and we trust your judgement. Please inform your child’s teachers if you decide your child cannot focus on schoolwork right now.
Teachers will be providing approximately 90-minutes of lessons for each class each week. These lessons are meant to be spread across Monday through Friday. You may want to create a schedule to structure your child's time to complete assignments. Work completed during this time will be applied to a student’s grade when we return to classes. If we finish out the school year with remote learning, students who successfully make progress in their classes will earn a “Pass” grade and 0.5 credit per class toward graduation requirements.
We have developed the following schedule for our teachers to connect with our students online beginning April 13. We have also developed a contact page with links to each teacher's lesson plans and staff emails.
Some of the teachers may expect your student to be online the entire 90 minutes scheduled for your class, others may not. Other teachers may expect your student to check-in with them at the start of each class period they are scheduled for; then students will have individual assignments to complete. All teachers will be available to provide online help if your student needs it. Students can email their teacher at any time of day.
Our expectation, as well as the Marysville School District’s expectation, is that students will participate in class at least weekly and complete the assignments. If your student makes the choice to not engage with the learning, then we will be contacting home with emails, phone calls, and so forth.
