Dear MVAT HS Families:
During the month of April and the beginning of May there will be a number of state tests given at school. These tests are one of the ways that students can meet their state graduation requirements. Students MUST attempt both the HS Math test and the HS English test at least one time. If they do not pass the first attempt, they may take the test again each year until they meet standard or they may take one of the approved alternatives. Students who avoid state testing or refuse to participate when the tests are given WILL NOT be able to meet state graduation requirements.
1) For all Sophomores, some Juniors and some Seniors:
Every sophomore will be assigned to a room to attempt the Math and English tests. These tests have two parts and will be completed on two different days. Lists showing which Juniors and Seniors need to take the Math test and/or the English test will be posted in the Commons at school on 4/17. These lists will also show the rooms to which each Junior and Senior will be assigned for testing. NOTE: Please have your student bring a fully charged Chromebook, charger and head-phones 4/23 and 4/25 as they will be needed for the English test.
ELA Test: Part 1 (CAT) = 4/23 at 7:45 Part 2 (PT) = 4/25 at 7:45
Math Test: Part 1 (CAT) =4/30 at 7:45 Part 2 (PT) = 5/2 at 7:45
Please be aware of the following considerations during testing:
- Cell phones are absolutely not allowed. Students will be required to turn off and put their phones away in their backpack. Those who violate this requirement may have their test invalidated by the state.
- Students who finish before their peers will only be allowed to leave the testing room during the passing periods between classes. They may not use any electronic devices (phone, Chromebook, kindle, etc.) while they are waiting.
- Students need to arrive at school on time and go to their assigned testing room.
- These assessments provide important information about the effectiveness of our school. Please encourage your students to do their best, and make sure they are well rested and well fed on testing days.
2) For Students who have IEPs:
Some students who have an IEP are eligible to participate in alternative assessments once they have made an attempt on the standard assessment. At least one of these alternatives will be administered during the April and May testing days. A list of these students, including the room in which they should test, will be posted in the Commons on 4/17.
Off-grade English = 4/24 (Both the CAT and the PT will be given.)
Off-grade Math = 5/1 (Both the CAT and the PT will be given.)
3) For all Juniors:
On May 9th, at 7:45 every junior must take the WCAS (the state science test). Students can graduate if they do not pass this test, but they must attempt it. Students will be assigned to a room, where they will work on the test for approximately two hours. All students will be released at the end of 2nd period. (10:07)
