Message from Dr. Chris Pearson

Dear Marysville School District Families,

As we learned about the tragic shooting in Uvalde, Texas, our hearts are heavy. There are no words to express the deep sorrow that is felt by the victims of the tragedy. The senseless act is one that no child, family, staff member, school, or community should ever have to experience. Unfortunately, our community knows this pain all too well and we are keeping the children, families, school, and the people of the Uvalde community close in our hearts and thoughts.

Acts of violence such as these are especially disturbing and frightening because they could have happened anywhere. The safety and security of our students and schools are our top priority. Each day we take steps to ensure the safety of our schools including locking exterior doors, having a consistent entry plan, security staff in schools, and a strong working relationship with local law enforcement.

As children learn of this event, it is important to know it may cause them to question their own safety in our schools. While we cannot give our students a guarantee that nothing bad will ever happen to them, we can reassure them that the adults around them will do everything in their power to keep them safe. Families and staff are encouraged to visit the following resources to help talk with their kids about this tragic event:

We will continue to support students by providing them with accurate information, and opportunities for extra support if needed, and to keep our routines as normal as possible to help students feel secure. You can help your child by simply talking and listening to them. We don’t always know how a child will be affected in a crisis, but you know your children better than anyone.

Due to previous similar events or losses, if you feel your child needs to visit with someone, please let your school know.

Sincerely,

Dr. Chris Pearson
Interim Superintendent
