Marysville Incorporates “LETRS” to Support the Elementary Literacy Program

With the coming school year, the Marysville School District is excited to announce the implementation of the LETRS training program for educators as part of a district-wide initiative to improve student literacy.

Msvl. WA—Reading is a fundamental aspect of learning. “Children who don't develop strong reading skills during their early years may encounter difficulties in other academic areas or face social and emotional challenges,” Superintendent Dr. Zac Robbins shared in his State of the Schools Address. Teaching students to read requires precise and dedicated efforts from parents and educators alike. As the science of teaching students how to read has evolved and improved over time, new methods have been discovered to help students unlock the magical world of words.

In the Marysville School District, students' literacy development is highly prioritized. Our schools are committed to aligning elementary school literacy instruction with educational best practices to ensure students' success. The district has implemented the research-based Lexia LETRS training program to achieve this goal.

LETRS, short for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling, provides educators with vital knowledge on how children learn to read. This comprehensive program focuses on teaching phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language, and it empowers teachers to effectively support the literacy growth of all students. Implementing LETRS equips teachers to improve instruction quality and positively impact student literacy outcomes.
