Application Process Open for Vacant School Board Seat
District Director Area 4

Msvl., WA—The Marysville School District Board of Directors is accepting applications to replace the District 4 Board Director position, which serves the district's east area (see map for reference). Seat 4 became vacant when Director Wade Rinehardt recently resigned for personal reasons. The acting school board president, Connor Krebbs, announced Director Rinehardt's resignation at the June 17, 2024, regular session board meeting.

State law requires the remaining school board members to appoint a replacement within 90 days. The director appointed will fill the seat until the November 2025 election.

Applications for the open seat are accepted through July 12, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.  Application packets are available at the district’s Educational Service Center at 4220 80th Street NE, Marysville, WA 98270, or online at www.msd25.org.

The Board of Directors will use the following criteria for the selection of the replacement board member based on the Washington School Board Standards:

  • Values and Ethical Behavior – Maintains a belief that all students can learn at high levels and places students' needs first. Models high ethical standards. Commits to treating each individual with dignity and respect.

  • Leadership– Contributes to thoughtful governance discussions and decisions by being well-informed, open-minded, and deliberative. A collaborative team member who understands that the authority rests with the Board as a whole and not with an individual director. Works in collaboration to develop and support the district’s Strategic Plan. Follows through on commitments – with passion, in word and action, for all students.

  • Professional Development – Willing to commit the time and energy necessary to be informed and competent. Desire to stay abreast of current issues, research, applicable laws, regulations, and policies that affect public education. Supports professional development, individually and with the board/superintendent team.

  • Equity Focused - Commitment to closing the opportunity and achievement gaps of our students through the development of policies that eliminate systematic disparities and barriers to an inclusive environment

  • Excellent Communication - Respectful two-way communicator, including active listening, speaking in public, and dialoguing skills – while maintaining an open mind.

  • Accountability - Contributions to school, community, and youth-focused activities; one who consistently operates with integrity and is accountable to the community.

Interviews will be held later in July, and the appointed director will be announced at a regular session school board meeting in August, where the Oath of Office will be administered.

The Marysville School Board holds regular board meetings on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 6:00 pm.  Board meetings typically end at about 8:00 pm (with additional time for executive sessions, as needed) and take two to three hours of preparation time to review the meeting information.  Work study sessions are held on most of the scheduled Wednesdays before the 6:00 meeting. These sessions provide more opportunities for the board to discuss student achievement, review district goals and progress toward those goals, hear reports, and discuss initiatives or issues.  Board representation at special events (dedications and graduations) and school visits also require a time commitment. Board members are compensated $50.00 per day for attendance at scheduled meetings and other events.

Interested parties must reside in Director District Area 4.
